Resolution by Korean American Federation of Orange County

In response to Drastically Rising Anti-Asian Hate Crimes

I am deeply concerned with the seriousness of hate crimes that jeopardize the safety and peace of good people, and the unity of this country. Equally concerning is the fact that the spike in anti-Asian hate crimes occurred during a year when hate crime overall declined by 7%. It is time to speak up and acknowledge that we are victims and have been oppressed, alongside our Black and Latino communities.  The Korean American Federation of Orange County (KAFOC) on behalf of Korean Americans in Orange County, and in coordination with BIPOC communities urges the government, at all levels, city, county, state and federal to take proactive measurements to prevent the Anti-Asian hate crimes and to protect the safety and security of Asian Americans. Our call to action includes:

  • City and Orange County government officials, including police forces, to take additional effort to patrol Asian businesses and to ensure the safety of Asian American residents in the area
  • Local governments to promote and educate residents on the prevention of hate crimes and how to respond when a hate crime is committed
  • Educational institutions to reinforce educating students and the general public on how to prevent racial discrimination not only in the class and school environment, but also at various school sponsored social events.
  • California state and Federal government officials to enact bills to prevent Anti-Asian hate crimes and countermeasures

KAFOC appreciates City of Irvine to adopt an action to “Support a Diverse and Tolerant Community” on January 12th, 2020, and congratulate that Irvine is THE FIRST and ONLY city in Orange County to track and monitoring hate incidents. We hope other city governments to join the initiative to make our diverse community peaceful and live harmoniously together helping each other for better future again.
